What you can put in a skip
As a general rule, you can put almost anything into a skip. This ranges from garden waste, wood waste, metal waste and inert waste (sand and concrete).
However there are some very specific things which are prohibited
from placing into one of our skips, or any other skip providers skips (unless specified otherwise).
What you can't put in a skip
Knowing what you can't put in your skip is imperative before ordering. This is because when we collect the skip if we
see any hazardous, or incorrect materials in the skip, we'll either have to remove them and leave the items with you. Or we'll have to reschedule another time once the incorrect items are removed.
Therefore knowing what can and can't go into the skip beforehand is very important.
TV's & Computer Monitors - Can you put an old TV in a Skip?
No, televisions and computer monitors cannot be placed into our skips. This is because there are numerous hazardous materials and components which go into a screen which we cannot dispose of without breaching our environmental promise.
Fridges & Freezers - Can you put fridges / freezers into a Skip?
No, unfortunately fridges and freezers cannot be put into our skips. Similarly to TV's there is a significant amount of hazardous materials. However contact your local council, some councils offer a free collection service for these types of items. If your council doesn't you will need specialist collection, or take it to your local tip.
Paint / Paint Tins - Can you put paint tins into a Skip?
No, paint isn't allowed to be placed into any skip. This is because it damages our skips, but also paint can be very toxic when being disposed of for both our employees, and the environment. Paint tins can be placed into a skip if they're completely empty. If you require additional support for disposing of paint contact your local council.
Mattresses - Can you put a mattress into a Skip?
Yes and No,
the process of disposing a mattress in comparison to other items is very different. Therefore Peterborough Skip Hire would appreciate being told in advance if a mattress is planning to be disposed of. Depending on where the collection crew are delivering your waste depends on the information we have on what you're disposing. Therefore if the incorrect team turns up and finds a mattress, we will have to reschedule your collection date.
Tyres - Can you put tyres in a Skip?
No,
the disposal process of tyres breaches our environmental promise, so we cannot accept tyres in our skips.
Asbestos - Can you put asbestos in a Skip?
No,
under any circumstance can asbestos be placed into one of our skips. If you require asbestos removal, please contact a waste company which provides expert services in dealing with hazardous waste.
